What’s the meaning behind the High Priestess brand name?
Interesting story! So back when we were still in the formation/pre-release stage I was actually struggling to come up with a name that I felt resonated with our brand’s ethos and mission. I was home one evening, doing witchy things, which for me just means pulling tarot cards and meditating while smoking cannabis. I decided to ask my tarot deck for some guidance on the name and I kept pulling the same High Priestess tarot card. If you look at the meaning, she represents a bridge between the physical and the metaphysical worlds, piercing the veil so to speak. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that the cannabis plant does exactly that–it too helps create a bridge between the spiritual and physical worlds. Have you ever had a moment where you were struggling to be fully honest or present with yourself, or you were missing answers to important questions, then after consuming cannabis you received the answers you needed or you just knew what you needed to do? That’s the energy of the High Priestess, she invites us to tap into our higher consciousness, to receive cosmic downloads, and uplift our vibrations.

As I was delving into the process of forming and introducing our brand, I struggled to come up with a name that I felt truly embodied our brand's values and purpose. Upon exploring its meaning further, I learned that she symbolizes a connection between the physical and metaphysical realms, essentially piercing the veil between them. This realization struck a chord with me because the cannabis plant itself creates a similar bridge– facilitating a connection between the spiritual and physical worlds. I’m sure you've experienced a moment when you struggled to be completely honest with yourself or were seeking answers to significant questions, and after consuming cannabis, you received the clarity you needed or intuitively knew the next steps to take. That's the essence of the High Priestess energy. She encourages us to tap into our higher consciousness, receive cosmic insights, and elevate our vibrations.
What made you decide to create High Priestess?
The decision to create High Priestess was deeply rooted in my personal experiences and passions. Even before the business came to be, I had been incorporating herbal smoke blends with cannabis and crafting my own natural intimacy products. I've always been drawn to natural, organic wellness solutions. In fact, using herbal aphrodisiacs and coconut oil lubricants in the bedroom has been a longstanding practice for me. Furthermore, my journey as a certified yoga instructor, trained community herbalist, and Reiki practitioner has always revolved around holistic wellness. I knew from the start that I wanted to extend my wellness offerings into creating botanical formulations that could be used to create wellness rituals. For example, consuming an aphrodisiac with a partner before getting intimate to help deepen the connection or consuming a smoke blend before meditation to help calm the mind and make it easier to center. When the pandemic struck and I found myself with more time for introspection and envisioning the future of my business, everything fell into place and I got busy executing it. Creating a brand that facilitates ease, pleasure, intimacy, and overall well-being through natural means became my driving mission. I firmly believe that plants have the power to support us in all aspects of our lives, if we allow them to! That's why High Priestess was born, to provide people with a pathway to experience the profound benefits that herbs and plant-based remedies can offer.
Since starting the brand, what’s been the biggest lesson you’ve learned as a women-owned business?
Since starting the brand, the biggest lesson I've learned is the significance of education. Specifically, I've realized the importance of educating people on how to enhance their relationship with sex, intimacy, and cannabis. It's astonishing that while the majority of adults engage in sexual activity, it remains a topic that few discuss openly and honestly. Through our journey, I've come to understand that by providing education to our customers, we can normalize and destigmatize conversations about sex and pleasure. It's so important for folks to understand that facing challenges with intimacy and arousal is completely normal, and that incorporating cannabis into our pleasure routines can lead to a more gratifying sex life.
How do you think the High Priestess products compliment Etain’s medical cannabis products?
I love this question! I can imagine preparing for a night of pleasure and intimacy by picking up a lovely indica dominant strain such as Wedding Cake and pairing it with Drip and Rouse. For partnered play it could be fun to begin by sharing a few puffs of Wedding Cake, allowing the effects of the cannabis to take effect in the body before applying our warming arousal oil, Rouse during foreplay. Keeping in mind that CBD/hemp/cannabis topically applied sexual wellness products can take a bit of time to work (typically 10-15 minutes but everyone usually finds their own groove), use the time to center, ground, and connect with yourself (for solo play) or your partner. I’m a huge fan of consuming cannabis and spending time in nature so one of my favorite ways to take a moment is to take a walk in Prospect Park in Brooklyn after having indulged in a mini-pre roll of course!
